Speech delivery

A speech refers to an informal or formal talk given to an audience and delivery is the way in which we present our speech.

Hence, Speech delivery is the method of speaking while addressing to an audience. A good speech must be simple, clear, and easy to understand without confusing ideas.

Methods of Speech Delivery

There are four methods of speech delivery

1.     Reading manuscript method- Speaker reads the prepared speech.

2.     Memorization method- Speaker memorizes the whole script and speaks without manuscript.

3.     Extempore method- Speaker prepares speech and uses notes/PPT/Modals/Chart to support his speech.

4.     Impromptu method- Speaker doesn’t get time to prepare; hence he speaks without notes or prepared material.  

Nuances of Speech delivery

1.     Fluency, confidence, and clarity are the pillars of public speaking. Speaker must practice it.

2.     Speaker must take care of pronunciation, articulation, right pitch, tone, etc.

3.     Speaker must control the body language in an effective manner.

4.     Speaker must follow the rules of proximity (Use of distance) and chronemics (time management).

5.     Speaker must use simple language to make speech delivery effective.

Importance of Speech delivery

1.     It helps sharing information to number of people at a time.

2.     Good speech delivery make speech more attractive and impressive.

3.     Good speech delivery allows a speaker to connect the audience automatically.

4.     Good speech delivery brings positivity at the place.

5.     Effective speech delivery enhances persuasion.

Elements of speech delivery poise, passion and illustrations-

 Poise-what is Poise-

1.     A calm, confident way of behaving is called poise.

2.     Speaker must be well mannered, sophisticated, polite and soft spoken.

Role of  poise in  Speech delivery-

1.     People with poise can handle pressure without showing it.

2.     Poised speaker can easily attract the attention of the audience.

3.     A poised speaker is more convincing.

4.     A poised speaker remains relaxed and gets attention of listeners.

5.     Audience has trust and confidence in poised speaker.

6.     A poised speaker handled unexpected chinches and moments with grace.

  How to add poise in speech-

1.     Use stress management techniques.

2.     Practice manners and etiquettes.

3.     Be calm and open.

4.     Have patience.

5.     Be positive and optimistic.

6.     Use ‘You attitude’ would also work.

  Passion-What is passion-

1.     Passion may be defined as the excitement, interest and genuine emotions to deliver speech.

2.     Passion is also an energy and enthusiasm, that a speaker shows in his topic.

3.     Passion shows that speaker is not forced to speak but he is interested to deliver on his own.

  Role of passion in speech-

1.     Passion captures the attention of the audience.

2.     Passion adds a personal special ingredient to the words.

3.     Passion brings creativity and innovation in speaker's speech.

4.     Passion prepares the speaker to be ready to answer cross questions, asked by the audience.

5.     A passionate speaker uses multiple mediums to make his presentation attractive and impressive.

6.     A passionate speaker can connect his audience easily.

  How to bring passion in speech –

1.     Read more about the topic, to be delivered.

2.     Search the topic thoroughly offline and online.

3.     Rehearse many times.

4.     Cultivate the interest to speak.

5.     Listen other public speaking sessions.

6.     Use good style and body language.

  Illustration -What is illustration –

1.     Illustration means using examples related to the topic, in speech.

2.     It is like adding colours to simple words.

3.     Illustration may have stories, anecdotes, couplets, etc.

  Role of illustrations in speech delivery –

1.     Illustrations make the content easy to understand.

2.     Illustrations make the speech more engaging.

3.     Illustrations helps audience visualizes the message.

4.     Illustrations supports the speech and enhances understanding.
